Migrating Blogger Commenting System

Uncategorized 8 September 2009 | View Comments

This blog integration between a third- party commenting system has turn from “pain in the arse” to “stupid dumbshit goddamn mothafucka” that kind of thing.

When I first using plugins commenting system other than what blogger actually provide, I am hopeful for an improved interaction and flexibility for readers when it comes to posting comments in any of my posts.

A reader posted me an email saying that my commenting system is no where to be found in any of my posts. Since he is not able to post any comment, he choose to post in my ‘shoutbox’(which I plan to remove from the blog layout). I received similar grievance from many other visitors.

Interaction between readers about any given post entries is fundamental to determine as if the entries is relevant or not. This is one of many things that we can do to be able to monitor the behavior and trend of our visitors concerning certain topic of keywords.

I have been using Intense Debate Commenting System for almost a year now. The beauty about this plugins is the integration with social networking site such as Twitter and Facebook. You can simply post comments and notify your Twitter and Facebook friends about the post that you recently found on the net. Hence save some of your time to do the ping manually. This system is owned by Wordpress parent company, Automattic.

Now the ugly side: Intense Debate “load time” will kill you. Some of my blogger friend that is using Intense Debate also grumbles the same problem. The comment form simply doesn’t appear and leave your post without any user interaction. Popular posts feeds and recent comment feed will be missing the same time too.

And for that, with so many considerations I am now dumping Intense Debate and switching to a new commenting system for blogger. Disqus

Disqus is a comment system and moderation tool for your site. This application is suitable for small blogs to large publications. The good thing about Disqus is the plugins will let search engines to index your comments. Customizable CSS and free to use. Trial runs with my other blog upshot a pleasant outcome. Disqus is simply a comment system andalso integrated with twitter.

Unlike Intense Debate I am hopeful that this plugins will work for me this time around.

  • i just read your blog.. nice info and good tips..Thanks a lot
  • Thanks man, just what I was looking for. Worked like a charm Thanks so much…
  • I am currently JSKit on all my blogs. The thing about JSKIt-Echo is that all comments that are left on JSKIT-Echo is being duplicated into blogger commenting system as well.. which means your Top comenter widget would work seamless.. now it seems JSKit-Echo is charging for new blog installation ~ a meagre amount of USD12 yearly but I have not decided if I want to continue with them for any future blogs that I might have. On the upside, in case they decide to start charging even for existing blog, I can just uninstall the plugin and I will still have my comments with me
  • Unfortunately with intense debate or disqus, should you decide to leave them or should (GOD forbid) they start to charge as JSKit did, and you decide to abandon them, you will lose ALL your precious comments..

sorry for the lengthly comment but just want to highlight pros and cons... :)

Having said that.. I do like Disqus as it allows me, as a registered user, to reply comments via email .. just like JSkit :)

No problem for the long comments, i like it. If somehow disqus is charging $$ to use their commenting form i maybe simply step away from any commenting sys migration. back to square 1, blogger own comment form. i lost lots of precious comments with intense debate. i i just love replying comments from my email. :)
