Tenom: The District Council has decided built a permanent barrier between the sellers of pork and wild boar meat at the market here, fearing that not to do so might lead to heightened tension between them.
Trouble has been brewing between traders of both meats ever since the Council forbade the wild boar meat sellers from operating at the former makeshift site and ordered them to relocate at a section of the pork market.
However, the pork sellers did not favour the move because wild boar meat proved more popular among the buyers.
Annam Yah, 32, a wild boar meat seller, thanked the Council for the measure and hoped it would also consider putting up fans inside the premise.
Meanwhile, the Council’s Executive Officer Wilfred Gantiu assured it would repair all non-functioning streetlights and several other infrastructures as soon as it received the allocation for maintenance. “We will settle the problem but please be patient because it will take time as there are government procedures to be complied with,” he said.
He was responding to complaints from shop operators that no action had been taken despite the matters having been raised several times previously.
