The condition of the coins when it was first discovered was very terrible, covered with some kind of stiff dirt and barely unrecognizable. A little bit of polishing here and there now the coins is back in action! It was very compelling to see old coins used during the historical times of our predecessor. The coins in the collection dated back from 1863 and that is 146 years, about 15 decades ago. By just holding the coins in your hands, it makes you wonder the history it holds behind all those years… I just can help myself taking the picture of it.
The coin was made from cupro-nickel. This is 1885 British North Borneo 1 Cent Coin. Two Iban men holding a shield and a sword standing between a logo. It had three different language written on it (English, Chinese and Arabic)
The Rajahs head. James Brooke 1 cent coin (1863) and Charles Brooke 1 cent coin (1886).
If you noticed, the one with the unclear surface is the Queen’s head, on the other side written The Straits Settlements, valued 1 cent. Coin with hole in the center is a 1 cent coin. The head of Rajah Charles Brooke with 2 flags crossing each other printed on it. The newest of all the coins dated back 1894.
There are actually 7 old British North Borneo coins in the collection. Two of which is not ready to be displayed yet because of the condition.
