Mr. Mouse turns 40
LAB RAT TURNS 40 YEARS OLD!
The mouse you are holding navigating yourself around your PC is now turns 40 years old. The first mouse prototyped by Douglas Engelbart is now a common sights everywhere. The first mouse made public was in 1968, six years after it was heard being tortured as a lab rat at Stanford Research Institute.
With the coming of this anniversary, some pundits have been quick to forecast the looming demise of the mouse at the hands of touch screens and speech recognition. But as long as computers require hands-on input from humans, we’ll probably have a look on our desks reserved for our small electronic friends. Forty years later, the mouse has become an indispensable tool for computer input, and its excellence at certain tasks means that it will likely be with us for some time to come.
I wonder netting the www without a mouse, because i just hate touchpad!
