Do you know that Sarawak (in certain areas) is covered with a free wireless internet access? Mukah, Miri, and Kuching are the first territory to receive such service before it was extended to Sibu, Sarikei and Betong. The Sarawak government initiative to narrow the digital gap between the people and the globalize world received such an outstanding ovation upon launching. And the service is free too. Offering up to 2.4 GHz wireless frequencies (as detected by my d-link wireless adapter) to its surrounding users.
As for me, I received this:
…accessed to three different Access Points (AP), but unable to surf the internet.
By end of this year its about 2 years
deConneXion servicing the regions with their free internet access. From my observation as a user, I don’t really benefited from the service they offer. I was transferred to Sibu early this year and the service already running for quite some time. Since then, I never been able to access a single webpage even if my wireless antenna receives the signals and I apparently connected. I live about less than 200 meters from one of their installed access point. Considering that the place I lived is an open area and frequency friendly. I can’t see why it’s so hard to access the internet. Until recently I receive an intermittent connection as the ping stats below and I am able to surf the net, crawling hard.
Some areas in Sibu enjoyed the service to a great extent especially in town centre, maybe because they were served with different APs. I occasionally have a coffee with friends in town centre and take the opportunity to surf the net through deConneXion. The connectivity is indeed a thumb ups. But some areas ranked poor. As a user many years to come, I anticipate deConneXion to improve their service in certain areas. People says, why complaining, it’s free, if you can then you can, if you can’t don’t bother. Indeed. Friend, it’s going to be a paid service by the end of this year. Do you really think I will subscribe? Tukarlah ke celcom. hehe
